I’m off to start my first S240 (Sub 24 hours cycle tour) on my Koga from Balloch north along the west side of Loch Lomond. Total weight in two rear panniers ( Arkel GT40’s as seen here http://www.arkel-od.com/us/all-categories/touring-bike-bag/gt-54-grand-touring-pannier.html) and their Big Bar bag is 35lb. A wee bit over the recommended but it is my first time.
I decided yesterday to commit myself to something I have been thinking about for some time now. I am going to do the JOGLE during summer 2011! Which is, for those who are not familiar with the abbreviation, is the cycle touring journey from John O’Groats in north Scotland to Lands End in Cornwall, southern England. Definitely, all things being well. Today I had a good work out with some Nordic Walking along the Clyde Avon walkway from Strathclyde Park in Lanarkshire. Nordic Walking is a form of exercise that involves walking with specially designed walking poles. Think of Skiing without any snow.
Can someone please explain to me the point of foisting a dead program on someone like me? Let me explain. I was trying to view a video file I found whilst surfing cycling stuff on the WWW when Adobe Media Player (I had never seen this program before now) popped up insisting I use that program to play the file! I thought, why not? And carried on filling in the mandatory details for their nosey little apples somewhere in their little apple orchard in Silicon Valley, CA., in order to comply and enjoy the file I wanted to see. Now I have this program annoyingly popping up frequently with nothing in it to do anything! Any menu I explore leads to a blank interface with no where else to go. Yes, I know that if I spent a whole day investigating why and how, I would eventually discover that there is some use for this program that has been shoved in my face but I really don’t have the time or inclination to do so! What is the point? Things like this really piss me off! (Apologies young ones.) So I say, get lost little apples and little windows and stop prying and snooping and wasting my time. Let me get on with my virtual life in peace!
Over the past few weeks I have been following a light spring training programme and so far this month have totalled 32.8 mies – so quite pleased. I will be increasing the schedule in May, hoping to get the required saddle fitness for doing some multi-day trekking. The first trip I am hoping for is a tour around Mull, including a non religious visit to Iona. I managed 12.9 miles to-day on my new bike, a GT GTR Series 4 2011 and felt absolutely clapped out – too much too soon! I should have left the longer session till next week.
This is my first post. This blog is about me it is a diary, it is a raving rant, a plea and a place containing the thoughts, fears, achievements and failings of an ordinary person. It’s my space, that for some crazy whim I have decided to share with you. It may not be “your cup of tea” and certainly isn’t for the young and delicate. It is a place that has adult themes and thoughts and as such should only appeal to adults.
I’m not quite sure what’s going to be the main content, I want it to evolve and develop as it chooses, such is the wonder of the mind and the diversity of this technology. It will be somewhat of a mish-mash of this and that, a reflection of what goes on in my wholly frantic mind. I hope that whatever appears here is survived by me and proves some use to someone, somewhere out there in this big, bad, great world of ours.
